Do you find yourself buying beauty products that you don’t even need? Or even makeup that hasn’t even been touched or used once or twice? I’m sure all of us are guilty of this, especially me. Especially, when I read other beauty bloggers posts on new and upcoming products, I am very tempted and even give in to trying out the products. However, currently, I am on a “No Buy Period” for beauty-related products, as well as other beauty bloggers. And I have to admit that I’m doing great so far!
I came across this “How to stop Being a
Makeup Junkie”
article which inspired me to create this post to make for those in their no-buy period a little bit easier, those looking for ways to budget your cosmetic products buying habits, and those wanting to stop your impulse beauty purchases!
1) Clean out your current beauty stash
You don’t realize how much makeup you have until you actually sort through it and clean it out! I did this and made me realize how much money I’ve been spending on cosmetics. I had a tons of makeup/beauty products that I haven’t even touched and some that I even forgot about. Here’s a tip: throw out samples that are over 3 months old and products that smell funny or don’t even recall having - chances are they are that old! After cleaning out your stash, you are aware of all the products that you have and products that you actually need.
2) Avoid cosmetic/beauty stores
This may seem ridiculous, but it works for me! If I step into ULTA or even CVS and see great sales or new products, I would even get more tempted in buying their products. Here’s a tip: If you have to go to a drugstore or mall, try to avoid these counters. Example: Department store - don’t enter downstairs where the cosmetic counters are in the front. Or better yet…bring cash - that way you can limit yourself.
3) Research the product before buying
Contemplating that new mascara or even lipgloss? Research the product before purchase - this is a no brainer. Look up reviews on beauty blogs, Makeupalley or even Total Beauty. The worst thing you want is buying a product full size and not be satisfied with it. Here’s a tip: Get a sample of their product before buying full size. Sephora and a lot of beauty counters give out samples all the time, even websites!
4) Make a Shopping List
Let’s say that you do need new makeup, make a shopping list of what you need to buy and stick to the list! Most likely if you don’t have a list, you might end up buying more products than necessary. Since I am on a no-buy period, I am currently making a shopping list of what to buy once this is over.
Items on my list: HIP cream liner in Black, Buff’d Mineral samples, Lauress Mineral samples, Angled eyeliner brush and concealer brush.
5) Think before buying
If you are extremely tempted to purchase something, leave the store or don’t make the online purchase and think about it for a day and see if you still want the product. Chances are you most likely won’t return the next day. A lot of times when I do this, the next day after I don’t the product anymore - because I don’t want to drive out again! This may be helpful for those who want to restrain themselves.
Hopefully these tips will help you all out, they have helped me! If anyone else has any suggestions that have worked for you, please share them!
