The Body Shop – Nature’s Minerals Foundation

The Body Shop has a new line of mineral foundation…and it looks promising!

Product Details (direct from website):

  • Kaolin clay and Mediterranean clay are absorbent minerals that provide long-lasting coverage.
  • Mica adds luster and has light-diffusing properties to help disguise fine lines and pores.
  • Titanium dioxide and iron oxide protect skin from the sun without clogging pores.
  • Dermatologist-tested with no added fillers, preservatives or fragrances.
  • Comes in 6 shades
  • ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Titanium Dioxide (24.4%)
  • INGREDIENTS: Kaolin, Illite. May Contain: Mica, Iron Oxides.- Look…no bismuth or cornstarch!

Price: $25 – about the same price as Bare Escentuals

Honestly, the price is a little too steep for me, but I wouldn’t mind trying a sample of this. I believe if you’re a “Love Your Body” cardholder, you can receive discounts on this. I like that this foundation contains very little ingredients and could be great for sensitive skin like me!

Would you give this mineral foundation a try?

New Feature: Is it worth it?

Yes, this beauty blog is geared towards Beauty, Skin and Shopping on a Budget. But once in awhile, I like to adventurous and venture out in the high end beauty product world. I define high end beauty products as beauty products not sold in drugstores or mass merchandise stores, but in higher end stores such as Sephora, Department stores or other beauty specialty stores.

I hate to admit this, but sometimes I find that high end beauty products do work better than lower end beauty products…which gave me the inspiration to create a new feature – “Is it worth it?” – a review for high end beauty products. Despite their higher price tag, I’m all for splurging once in awhile on higher end beauty products, if they do their job. But the real question is…is it worth to shell out more dollars for a product if there are other similar products that are less expensive? And more importantly, are they really worth that price tag?

Be on the look out for “Is it worth it?” high end beauty product reviews…

Product Review: L’Oreal Nutrigloss Shampoo/Conditioning Treatment

Allure’s Award winning L’Oreal Nutrigloss Product line has been out for awhile and I finally had a chance to review these two products – L’Oreal Nutrigloss Shampoo for Medium/Long Hair that’s damaged and the Conditioning Treatment.

Product Details: Infuses Pearl Protein Complex to add shine and revitalize Medium To Long Hair that’s Damaged

Retail Price: $3-$5

Where to Buy? Mass Merchandise/Drug Stores

L’Oreal Nutrigloss Shampoo for Medium/Long Hair that’s Damaged
Rating: 3.5/5

PROS:

  • I couldn’t resist the cute light pink packaging
  • I liked the concept of a shampoo catering towards my hair type of long hair
  • It has a light, and not overpowering smell
  • Lathers pretty well and left my hair shiny, manageable and soft!
  • It’s affordable – it’s only $3-$5

CONS:

  • After using this product consecutively for a week, it left my scalp itchy and flakey
  • In addition to continued use, this shampoo started to weigh down my hair.

The Bottom Line:

Overall, this was a pretty good drugstore shampoo compared to other drug store shampoos out in the market. For reference, I have long fine hair with a dry scalp and dry/damaged ends. Intially, this product worked great for my long hair. However, over time, it dried out my scalp and made it itch like no other. This product might be better suited for those with a less sensitive scalp and thicker hair.

L’Oreal Nutrigloss Conditioning Treatment

Rating: 2/5

The Bottom Line:

This product does not need an extensive review because I was extremely disappointed with this product. The product is labeled as a Conditioning Treatment, which is supposedly better than your standard conditioner -no? I gave it a 2, because I have to give credit that it did do its job – hair conditioning. I expected what a conditioning treatment is supposed to do – moisturize, and strengthen, and condition my hair. However, the conditioner is nothing to rave about. This did nothing exceptional for my hair that a regular conditioner would do. Trust me…there are far better conditioning treatments out there – ex. Neutrogena Triple Conditioner Recovery Mask.

Fab Tips: Cosmetics Shelf Life Guidelines

If you’re like me, you may have a habit of keeping products past their expiration date.

Guidelines on when to throw out Cosmetics (I really should follow them):

  • Foundation: Powder – 1 year, Liquid – 6 months
  • Concealer: (6-12) months
  • Eyeshadows: (2-3) years
  • Lipstick/Lipgloss: 1 year
  • Pencils: Lipliner/Eyeliner – 1 year
  • Mascara: 3 months

I’m guilty of keeping cosmetics way past their expiration date, because they are either (A) untouched/hardly used or (B) I forget how long I’ve had them for.

So how do you keep track of your cosmetics shelf life?

It may seem like a no-brainer, but I label my cosmetics once I purchase or receive them. Trust me…labeling does help! Personally, I like to use file folder label stickers that are cut into little pieces to fit onto beauty products. Post-its or little pieces of paper strapped with tape would work just as well.
Example:

This might be a little too time consuming for those with an extensive beauty collection, but you can try labeling products that have a short shelf life – ex. Mascara, liquid foundation…This may help prevent unwanted eye infections or blemishes. Also, when you throw out expired products, it’s a good excuse to buy new ones!

If anyone else has tips…please share them!
