Bad shampoo? Don’t throw it out just yet…

Ever come across a shampoo that sadly disappointed you? I have…plenty of times. Most recently, I had this issue with Pantene Pro-V shampoo – and by the way – I hate Pantene Pro-V. So what do you do with a bad shampoo? I’m assuming that you’re first instinct would be to throw it out, because obviously you are not going to use it on your hair. But don’t throw it out so fast, especially if it was expensive shampoo – because you can use your unwanted shampoo for other purposes.

New uses for my unwanted shampoo:

  • Makeup brush cleanser – Mix one part shampoo to two parts water and ta-da! – a homemade cosmetic brush cleanser! However, this might not be optimal for those with acne prone skin.
  • Hair brush/comb cleanser – Mix one part shampoo to one part water and use this solution to clean your hair brushes. Pantene Pro-V did any excellent job of cleaning my hair brushes and got rid of the oil build up.
  • Instant bathtub bug killer – From time to time, I come across an unwanted visitor in my bath tub. Rather than screaming for someone to kill the visitor or drown it in water, a squirt of shampoo will do the trick…INSTANTLY! Trust me…this works! hehe
  • Hand Soap – Depending on the type of shampoo, you can easily turn your unwanted shampoo to instant hand soap.
  • Shaving cream – If your unwanted shampoo is more on the creamy side, you can use it as a shaving

So, what do you all do with all your unwanted shampoo – throw it out immediately? If anyone else has any other great tips for other uses for shampoo, please share them!

Fabuless Beauty turns 1!

Time flew by so fast…Fabuless Beauty turns 1 today! Just a short year ago, I was inspired by so many wonderful beauty bloggers out there to create my own blog. I honestly thought that it was a fad of mine that would quickly be dropped within months. However, I proved myself wrong!

This past year…

  • I came across new and existing beauty blogs that inspire me to continue blogging
  • My beauty knowlege and beauty purchases has skyrocketed
  • I’ve changed the layout to this blog numerous times, before settling with this layout – btw, a new layout is in the works!
  • Fabuless Beauty joined the Total Beauty Community – it opened the doors to more windows of opportunities to new products and knowledge
  • Fabuless Beauty got her own URL
  • The content and writing here at Fabuless Beauty has vastly improved! – I cringe looking back at my old posts
  • Reader viewership has substantially increased – I remember I was elated once I hit 100 page views a day!

Thanks for reading my blog and hopefully Fabuless Beauty will have many more years to come!

EcoTools Brush Set = Tools for Success

Beauty bloggers and magazines raved about EcoTools cosmetic brushes. Even Rachel Ray labels this brush set as her Everday Favorite. And I’m going to have to join them.

This Earth-friendly brush set contains 5 high-quality brushes. The brush handles are made from bamboo and its bristles are 100% cruelty free. Not only are these brushes earth friendly; but these brushes are super soft, lightweight and very affordable! This 5 piece brush set sells less than $15. That’s less than $3 a brush! I purchased mine at Rite Aid for $10.99. They are also sold individually, but you get more for your buck with the set.

Brush set includes:

  • Blush Brush – This blush brush is quite large for blush application, but it can also double as a foundation brush
  • Eyeshadow Brush – Great brush for applying an all over color eyeshadow!
  • Eyeliner Brush – I was in dire need of an eyeliner brush to apply my cream eyeliner. This brush does the trick. This brush is also great for smoothing out the freshly applied pencil/liquid eyeliner.
  • Lash and Groomer Brush - I hardly use the groomer brush, but the lash comb works well in separating lashes.
  • Concealer Brush – It’s supersoft! I use this to apply concealer on my trouble spots (blemishes). Because of my new found love for this concealer brush, my Sonia Kashuk concealer brush has retired.
  • Cosmetic Brush roll – Great for traveling! Because it’s made from Cotton, you can throw it in the washer and reuse.

These brushes are environmentally friendly, work wonderfully and are inexpensive. What more could you ask for? And they don’t shed after washing. If anyone is looking for new cosmetic brushes, this is your best bet!

Tip: The cheapest place I’ve seen these brushes are at Walgreens and Rite Aid – for $10.99. ULTA has them for $14.99. From time to time, ULTA has promotions on EcoTools or coupons.

Is there anyone else raving over EcoTools? Has anyone else tried their other brushes?

Bethesda Sunscreen Soap Offers More than SPF10

Bethesda Skincare has created the world’s first All-Natural sunscreen soap with Multi-Vitamins. The Sunscreen Soap protects the skin with an invisible layer of SPF 10. Don’t forget…you’re suppose to apply sunscreen daily! And as if sunscreen wasn’t enough, 1/3 of the soap is made of vitamins and minerals with their All-One Vitamins formulation – a bar that delivers 50 vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Just to ensure that their SPF isn’t just a gimmick, it has undergone FDA testing to ensure UVB and UVA rays.

Luckily, I had a chance to try this out….

Where to Buy? Online

Retail Price: $8

Product Review: Bethesda Sunscreen Soap

Pros:

  • The soap did not leave a filmy residue or strip my skin like most bar soaps
  • It’s highly concentrated! – I’ve used this for a month and have more than 75% left…
  • Wonderful, light scent and does not smell like sunscreen- I HATE soaps that have a strong smell and sunscreen that smells like…well, sunscreen.
  • I love the concept! – SPF in soap…genius!

Cons:

  • This product isn’t readily available in stores – so far you can only purchase them online or limited boutiques in the US.
  • The price tag – At $8 retail, it’s a bit steep for a bar of soap
  • May not be suitable for dry/winter skin – It’s not as moisturizing as body wash

The Bottom Line: I was pleasantly surprised with this soap. Honestly, I’m more of a body wash type of girl and in need of extra moisture for my naturally dry skin. This soap is probably more appropriate for the warmer months – Spring/Summer.

I would not repurchase this little guy, because he is a little on the pricier side…$8 for a bar of soap? However, this would make a great stocking stuffer with holidays around the corner!

Seriously, mass market retailers need to jump on this idea already…
