Did this cream liner live up to my expectations?
L’Oreal HIP Color Truth Cream Liner in Black
Pros:
- It’s fool proof! - I was hesitant to give this a try, because I have shaky hands and cannot apply liquid liner for the life of me. A few simple strokes with an angled eyeliner brush and you too can easily apply this eyeliner.
- The jar is huge! Translation: This cream liner will last you a awhile. I wear eyeliner almost everyday and seriously this jar will probably last me at least another 6 months. Oh, and this jar is 1.5 g larger than MAC’s Fluidline.
- HIP (high intensity pigments) lives up to its name! This liner is a true black..not blue black or dark grey…but BLACK. This liner is so versatile that it can be worn from soft to dramatic.
Cons:
- The Price - For $3 more, you can purchase MAC’s Fluidline. Here are some words of wisdom, don’t purchase HIP’s cream liner at regular price!
- The brush that the liner comes with sucks! - But then again, who expects brushes that accompany beauty products to be of high quality? For better application, use an angled eyeliner brush.
The Bottom Line: Overall, I was impressed by this cream liner. This was my first cream liner purchase and I am now a fan of cream liners. I love how I can build up my look from a soft daytime look to a night out on the town. Honestly, I was debating between the budget friendly cream liners out there - Coastal Scents, Jane and Revlon and am happy that I chose to try out L’Oreal HIP’s version instead. This liner could possibly be my HG liner - I definitely will repurchase once I run out!
FAB TIP: For more bang for you buck, purchase HIP products when they go on Buy 1 Get 1 Free Promotions. Also, check out this past weekends Sunday’s newspapers coupon inserts - they have a $2 off any L’Oreal HIP Product!
Has anyone else tried out this liner? If so, did you hate it or love it?

Several of the H.I.P. products are in my HG drawer. Including the brown & black cream liner. And their shadow duos are second only to MAC IMHO. Definitely stock up on the BOGO sales though. Thanks for the post!

I got this on my trip to the US, and it was fab. Should have gotten another one too, since it’s not available in Australia.
The brush is rubbish but then again, I don’t use it either :p

hey this sounds like a great product. maybe just a reminder…cream eyeliners can accumulate bacteria real easily so if u can, scoop out some product to use so u dun contaminate the whole jar…

Do you use a specific brush with these? I’ve been trying to find a good, maybe cheap one; the brushes that come with are definitely bad, LOL! I think I tossed them.

My friend bought this when she went to the states and I’ve tried this, really good but you’re right, for it’s regular price, you can just buy MAC. I wish I can purchase BOGOF
You’re right again, the liner brush sucks so bad!

do you find the consistency to be similar to mac? i haven’t tried this liner yet =)

TheWaveLife - Thanks for visiting! The cream liners are the only products I’ve tried from L’Oreal’s HIP line. Honestly, the shadows didn’t really pop out at me.
Tine- You picked up a great find =)
Cheryl - Thanks for the advice. It makes sense that it can horde bacteria, because it is somewhat moist. I make sure to seal the jar tightly after each use.
JennBee - I use an angled eyeliner brush. I currently use my ecoTools angled eyeliner brush that can in a set that I bought. CVS has a decent angled brush or you might even want to check out Coastal Scents.
Askmewhats - They don’t have this line overseas?
Spankedelic - I have not tried MAC’s fluidline, so I can’t compare. But if anyone has tried both of them, please share your experiences.

I guess I’m the only one who thinks it’s different from MAC Fluidline. :X MAC Fluidline is more creamier than the L’oreal HIP Cream liner.

Just a heads up….CVS (at least the ones in NY State) is having the BOGO sale on all L’Oreal products from now through Saturday. I just picked some of this up today…along with the beauty tubes mascara, which I love, Love, LOVE!
Also…if you’re looking for a good, moderately priced liner brush…Bobbi Brown has one that I’ve been using for a good 2 years now…I think it was $18 when I first bought it, not sure if the price has gone up since…it’s not the cheapest brush in the world, but it does the job and holds up well. I’d rather spend a little more up front for a good quality product then settle for a cheaper brush that I’l have to replace sooner anyday.

Ahlessa - Thanks for clarifying the difference between MAC’s Fluidline and HIP’s cream liner.
K- Thanks for the heads up! I remember seeing them on sale in the CVS ad. BOGO Free paired up with $2 off is a steal!

Great review! The cream liner sounds awesome! I do have one question, though–what about the liner’s staying power? Can it last the entire day, or does it smudge?
September 12th, 2009 at 1:51 am
Lauren - For me, it does not smudge. For extra staying power, I set it with black eyeshadow.

i just recently purchased hip’s color truth cream liner in black and i’m in love with it. it holds up beautifully and its creamier than mac’s fluidline. for extra hold i use she-laque..

tonibalogna - I’m glad you like this cream liner too!

Angela - I would suggest CVS’s Essence of Beauty line. They have an angled brush that is inexpensive. You can also try EcoTools.
