Essence of Beauty Retractable Kabuki Brush Review

Essence of Beauty, CVS’s own beauty line, has their own version of a kabuki brush.  If you aren’t familiar with kabuki brushes, they’re great for applying mineral makeup products.  Except that unlike most kabuki brushes in the market, this brush is retractable!

Approx. Price: $13

Where to Purchase?: CVS

The Bottom Line:  I expected this Essence of Beauty Retractable Kabuki brush to be along the same quality as my other EOB brushes - high quality brushes and an affordable price.  However, this brush was not the case.  The kabuki did a fantastic job in applying my mineral foundation.  But the bristles are not exactly soft.  Overall, I found the brush to be scratchy and rough - cosmetic brushes should not be like this!  After a couple of washes, this kabuki brush sheds like no other.  Finding brush hairs on your face after mineral foundation application is not exactly attractive.  However, I do have to give this brush merit that it is retractable, which is ideal for traveling.  As a fan of Essence of Beauty brushes, I was highly disappointed with this brush. In the trash it goes!

P.S. I still prefer my Everyday Minerals Flat Top Brush for mineral foundation application.

Another Way to Keep Track of Beauty Product Shelf Life

Awhile back, I advocated the importance of keeping track of beauty expiration dates.  Once beauty products are opened, the spoiling process begins and starts the allowance of bacterial growth - yuck! Nothing is worse than getting an unwanted eye infection or blemish from beauty products past their prime.  Rather than making your own labels (which I currently do), Beauty Alert! can make this process easier my providing you with the pre-made labels!

These labels contain 24 specifically-designed stickers to help you avoid outdated and potentially hazardous beauty products.  All you need to do is write in the date the beauty product was opened.

Product Details:

  • Beauty Alert! contains 24 stickers total - 6 stickers for each of the 4 categories of product life (3, 6, 12 and 18 months)

  • As a guideline, each sheet specifies the timeline for which beauty products the labels are made for.  For example, the 3 month sheet is made for mascara and liquid eyeliner.

  • Stickers are made for the use with mascara, eyeliner, skin care, hair products and more!

  • For optimal adherence, apply label to a clear and dry surface and write in the label with a permanent marker

  • Approx Price: $8.50 for a pack

Where to Purchase: Online or Ed Wyse Beauty Supply Stores

Look! I’ve already started labeling my beauty products with BeautyAlert! Brownie points for those that can name these beauty products featured below.
