I ran out of TiGi’s Catwalk Fashionista Smooth and Shine and was in need of a new heat protection spray.  I did not want to have to shell out more than $10 for another product and decided to try something new…Beyond the Zone: Turn Up the Heat Hair Protection Spray.

Supposedly, Beyond the Zone Hair Products (a product line from Sally Beauty) is a dupe of TiGi’s Hair Product Line.  Yes, their packaging may not be as swank as TiGi, but you can’t always judge a product by its cover. And best of all, Beyond the Zone Products are about half the price of salon brand prices!

Can Beyond the Zone’s Turn Up the Heat Hair Protection Spray be compared to TiGi’s Fashionista Smooth and Shine?

Beyond the Zone: Turn Up the Heat Protection Spray Review

PROS:

  • Alcohol free! – I avoid hair styling products that contain alcohol.  Why? Because they will dry out your hair like no other. I’m a sucker for healthy hair.  Luckily, Turn Up the Heat is alcohol free and will did not dry out my tresses!

  • Smooth and Shiny hair – A few spritz of this spray prior to blow drying my hair, I was left with super shiny and smooth hair.  My hair tends to get a bit frizzy after a blowout, but Turn Up the Heat keeps my hair in check.

  • An affordable price – Priced at about $6, it’s more than half the price of salon brand heat protectants.  Yes, it may cost a bit more than your typical drugstore hair product, but it’s well worth it! A little product goes a long way.  This bottle can last me all year.

CONS:

  • It can be greasy - Especially if you have thin hair like me, use sparingly! I’m warning you in advance, if you use too much, like I did…It can get greasy and your hair will look like an oil slick. You only need a tiny amount, 2 or 3 sprays.  And apply the spray at least 8 inches away from your head.

  • The candy scent – Some people love the sweet cotton candy scent, and some people hate it.  Initially, I was not fond of the candy scented spray.  When first applied, the scent is strong! However, after a couple of hours, the scent subsides and is bearable.

The Bottom Line:

Can Beyond the Zone’s Turn Up the Heat Protection Spray be compared to TiGi’s Fashionista Smooth and Shine? Yes, it can!  Both products are alcohol-free, protect your hair from heat appliances, and leave your hair shiny and smooth.  The difference? TiGi’s Fashionista Smooth and Shine is in cream form, which can also double as a styling cream.  Beyond the Zone’s Turn Up the Heat Protection Spray is in liquid form and cannot be used as a second day restyler.  Yes, the packaging and smell of Turn Up the Heat is not as nice as TiGi’s Fashionista Smooth and Shine, but it gets the job done!  And at the fraction of TiGi’s price tag!

Will I repurchase? You betcha! Turn Up the Heat Protection Spray has a definite home in my bathroom cabinet.
