Revlon Self-Adhesive Lashes: Glue is required

For the false eyelash newbie, application can be nerve wracking.  To calm the nerves of shaky hands, Revlon made applying false lashes that much easier by creating self-adhesive false lashes.  Revlon claims that no glue is required!

I tried these lashes firsthand and let me let you in on something…glue is necessary!

Self-Adhesive Lashes

Up close lashes with built-in lash glue

The Bottom Line:

Save your pretty little pennies and pass up on Revlon Self-Adhesive lashes.  Yes, these lashes are so easy to apply that even a false lash virgin can master eyelash application, but these lashes have no staying power!  I tried using these lashes for a wedding and within half an hour, these lashes started to come off.   I am going to stick with the lash strip and lash glue method.   And for those that want to venture out in trying out false lashes, try buying inexpensive lashes like Red Cherry or Ardell to play around with.

Is it worth it? MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer

I am a huge fan of MAC, especially when it comes to their eye shadows.  I love their color selection and stay-put formula.  However, their foundations and concealers are a different story.  In the past, I have been unsuccessful with MAC’s concealers, but one makeup artist introduced me to MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer.

Let’s see if MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer worth it?

Approx. Price: $16.50 for a 5.5g/0.19 oz. jar

Where to Purchase? MAC Online, Macy’s, MAC retail store

The Bottom Line:

Is MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer worth it? Honestly, I’m on the fence with this one.  It all boils down to what you expect from a concealer.  This concealer has a creamy and thin consistency, which allows for buildable coverage.  Ideally, a synthetic brush is optimal for application.  You can use your fingers, but that would not be hygienic. The concealer is highly pigmented and a small amount will give you full coverage.  If you use too much, it will cake up.  It provides excellent coverage for scars and redness.  Surprisingly, I did not break out from this concealer.

Warning: If you’re concealing blemishes, you need to set the concealer with powder.  If not, the concealer will slip right off and leave you with an unwanted ring around your blemish.  Trust me, I learned that lesson on my own! Similar to MAC Studio Fix Fluid, it will accentuate dry skin.

Okay, now my frugality is going to come into play.  Economically speaking, MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer gives you the most product out of their entire line of concealers.  Overall, MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer is a fairly decent concealer.  You are getting quite a bit of product for the price you are paying.  If you’re looking for coverage, MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer is worth it.  But if you have dry skin, it may not be worth it.

So for those that have tried MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer…do you like it or hate it?

Zoya Fall 2009 Collection: MatteVelvet

Zoya recently released their Fall 2009 Collection: MatteVelvet.  Unlike traditional nail polishes, MatteVelvet is intended to be worn without a top or base coat.  This collection is dark and vamp.  Forget shimmery and high shine finishes, Matte is HOT this fall.  What I love about that matte look is that it is definitely edgier than the traditional nail polish finishes.

Approx. Price: $6 per bottle

Where to Purchase: Zoya Online

Check out Zoya’s MatteVelvet in Posh

The Bottom Line:

I tried out Zoya’s MatteVelvet in Posh and it’s a beautiful color.  The color reminds me of a dark cranberry.  I wore this to a wedding and received compliments all night.  In the bottle, the polish is quite shimmery, but once applied it leaves at matte chrome finish.  In addition, the polish dries incredibly fast.  So if you make a mistake, clean it up quickly before it dries!

I have always been a fan of Zoya nail polishes, but sadly, MatteVelvet disappointed me.  Why? There is no staying power.  After two coats of polish, my nails chipped within a couple of days. Yes, you can fix this with a top or base coat.   However, it would take away the matte finish.  If Zoya can fix the chipping factor, MatteVelvet would be golden!

What are your thoughts on matte nail polishes? Are they a “do” or “don’t” this Fall?
